Sports on the Central Coast

Sports were a very large part of my childhood and I wouldn't be the person I am today without them. They helped me channel my excess energy as a young child, helped me learn responsibility, and enforced the concept of working with others to achieve a common goal. As I got older sports kept me focused on my long term goals, and gave me a positive outlet through my teen angst years.

As an adult I know many people that did not play sports when they were younger but are lifelong fans. They go to college games regularly, follow their favorite teams, and really provide wonderful family memories by engaging their children in their hobby. My father and brother LOVE baseball, a sport that I really have little interest in. However, I have wonderful memories of attending professional and semi-professional sports games as a child. It was just a fun family day and it didn't matter at all that I didn't follow the sport or play the game.

Go to those college and semi-pro games, sign up for teams, go swimming, hike, skateboard, whatever suits your fancy. Go out and try something you never have before. Even if your child is not interested in playing you never know if you are inspiring that future journalist, photographer, sports writer, or just giving them a fun, wholesome hobby to enjoy for life.
