Children and Museums

I love museums and I have fond memories of going to them as a child. I think that if you were taken to museums as a child there are things that stick with you. In an Art History class in college my professor showed a slide of "Watson and the Shark" by John Singleton Copley. I was struck with the fact that I had seen that painting before. Not a reproduction, not a picture but I knew I had seen that painting. Of course my professor told me that the chances were slim that I had seen it and that I must be mistaken. On asking my mother it turned out that it was in a traveling show that I had in fact gone to see when I was a child. You better believe that I aced that test! So go out and explore our local museums. You never know what will make a lasting impression, or surprise a future college professor!
