Avila Beach is a great place to spend the day. There is a wonderful park, basketball courts, a pier, restrooms, and convenient places to buy sodas and snacks. If other beaches are fogged in you might still be able to have a sunny beach day at Avila.

Gentle surf, picnic facilities. The pier is lit for night fishing.

Guadalupe Nipomo Dunes Preserve

This is a great place to hike, bird watch and picnic. Check the website link to find info about guided walks and other great stuff. Use the Oso Flaco entrance to take a mile long boardwalk to the beach. It is safe for kids and is handicap accessible.

Morro Strand State Beach

24th Street (for access to northern part of the beach)

From Pismo Beach you can walk the pier, play sand volleyball north of the pier, or use the slide and swings south of the pier. Great for boogie boarding and surfing. Restrooms at the pier. There is an 8 mile section where you can drive your car or off-road vehicles along the beach. The Pismo Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area starts one mile south of Pier Avenue.

This is a great area for tide pooling - check the tides Access: The Cliffs Resort: stairs on the north side of the resort. 2757 Shell Beach Road, Shell Beach, CA 93449 Ocean Blvd at Pier Ave (Shell Beach) This is a great place to go tide pooling or launch the kayak.
